Sampling Clock Generator for Discrete Filters

The Sampling Clock Generator for Discrete Filters generates the narrow pulse width TRIG signals for use with the discrete time filters. You can think of this device as a one-shot which triggers on every rising edge of the input clock. The output pulse is set by the Acquisition Time parameter.

The information in this topic refers to the latest Sampling Clock Generator for Discrete Filters which was introduced in version 8.10. In versions prior to 8.10, a similar Sampling Clock Generator exists and has the same behavior as the new version. The new version is implemented in a library file as opposed to a templatescript, but the electrical behavior is identical. If you require a clock generator for use in versions prior to 8.10, the old Sampling Clock Generator for Discrete Filters can be placed from the part selector location: Obsolete > Digital Functions > Sampling Clock Generator for Discrete Time Filters (Obsolete).

Examples

The test circuit used to generate the waveform examples in the next section can be downloaded here: simplis_039_sclockgenerator_example.sxsch.

Waveforms

In the circuit example, the Acquisition Time for each Sampling Clock Generator is set to 1ns.

  • The CLK1 input is a 1MHz pulse source with a 50% duty cycle.
  • The CLK2 input is also a 1MHz pulse source with a 10ps pulse width.
  • The output of both sampling clock generators is a 1ns wide pulse triggered by the input clock edge, independent of the input clock pulse width.

Subcircuit Parameters

The subcircuit parameter names, data types, ranges, units, and descriptions are in the following table. The parameter names can be used to generate netlist entries for the device. For example, a valid Sampling Clock Generator for Discrete Filters netlist entry would be:
